Hike Ratings:   Distance:     A = up to 3 miles                 Terrain/Footing:  1 = easy
                                          B = 3-6 miles                                                  2 = average

                                          D = 8-10 miles                                                4 = strenuous

                                          E = over 10 miles                                           5 = very strenuous

Wayah Gap to Siler Bald on the AT. The trail climbs 1,000 feet in l.9 miles, but the 360 degree view from top is well worth the effort. A 3.8 mile round trip hike. Club favorite

Dockery Lake Trail to Miller Gap on the  Appalachian Trail (3.5 Miles), then about 1/2 mile north on the Appalachian Trail   for lunch. Return for a total of  8 miles.

Unicoi Turnpike Trail and Benton MacKaye Trail. Come walk some actual pieces of the famous Cherokee Trail of Tears of 200 years ago, then the other half is the Benton MacKaye Trail.  7 miles total.  The trip includes CCC camp site and side trip to Buck Bald’s vista.  16 mile r/t shuttle.

Black Rock Mountain State Park near Clayton.  Hike the James E. Edmonds Loop Trail for 7.2 moderate to strenuous miles.   State park pass or current parking fee.

Deep Gap (4,341 ft) to the top of Standing Indian Mountain (5,498 ft.) on the AT.  This is a 5 mile round trip hike in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness Area.  Year-round spectacular views.

Big Frog Mt. – Via Big Frog and Wolf Ridge trails Summit up Big Frog trail (2k el gain) then down the southwest side on Wolf Ridge with beautiful views and fall colors for a 10 mile hike with short shuttle.

Arkequah Trail   from Brasstown Bald parking lot down to Track Rock Gap.  This is a moderate hike of about 5.5 miles, mostly downhill. Spectacular views.  See the petroglyphs at the end. Some rough footing.  Shuttle

Tate City to Standing Indian.  Return via AT and trail from Deep Gap.  Hike will follow Beech Gap Trail to Case Knife Gap, then UP to the AT just north of Standing Indian summit, then south on AT to Deep Gap, then down the Deep Gap Trail back to our cars.  Approx 10 miles

Bear Paw and Chestnut Mountain loop trails opposite the Whitewater Center in the Ocoee Gorge, TN.  A moderate 7.7 mile hike. Good winter views of gorge.

Dicks Creek Gap north to Plum Orchard Gap Shelter, in and out on the AT. 9 miles. Moderate with some steep climbs.  Trail passes Dick’s Creek Gap 2675 ft, Cowart Gap 2920 ft, Buzzard Knob 3760 ft, and Plum Orchard Gap 3090 ft.

Leisure Hike: Raven Cliffs Trail.  A scenic 5 mile round trip hike along a cascading mountain stream to towering cliffs with two waterfalls.  Some difficult footing due to erosion.

Jacks Gap to Chattahoochee Gap on the Jacks Knob Trail.  This 4.6 mile round trip hike has several moderate to strenuous grades both directions.  Pretty wildflowers in the spring.

Woody Gap over Big Cedar Mt. to Miller Gap on the AT, then down Dockery Lake Trail for a total of 6.4 miles. Short Shuttle.  Very scenic hike, good views Flame azaleas in spring. Short steep climb to Preachers Rock.

Betty’s Creek Gap to Beech Gap in the Standing Indian Area. 10.2 miles total. At Betty’s Creek Gap, go southbound on the AT for 7.8 miles to Beech Gap, then down 2.4 miles on the Beech Gap Trail. Short shuttle required.

Jack Rabbit hike/bike trail.  7.6 miles.  Hike four loops of the Jack Rabbit Hike/ bike trail--3.1 miles on the white blazed loop, 2 miles on the blue blazed loop, 1 mile on the orange blazed trail, 1.5 miles on yellow blazed loop.  Great views of Lake Chatuge and variety of hard woods.
