Blood Mountain via the Byron Herbert Reece Trail and AT.  A 5 mile round trip hike (≈ 4:30 hrs) with 1,400 ft. of elevation change. Splendid views from the top.  Carpool $2.00

Warwoman Dell to Pinnacle Knob.  About 8+ miles.  Hike north on Bartram Trail into a dense mountain laurel and rhododendron forest.  At 2.2 miles visit Martin Creek Falls, continue another 1.7 miles to Courthouse Gap and then take the 0.5 mile side trail to Pinnacle Knob for a spectacular rocky vista.  Option for after hike refreshment on the porch of Rumor Haz-It.  Carpool $8.00

NEW HIKE:  London Bald Trail #19C. (Approx. 8.4 miles total)  Start from Appletree Camp and  go up 19B 2.5 miles to London Bald Trail (#19C).  Go left 5.9 miles to Junaluska Gap.  Spectacular views of Tusquitees, Nantahalas, and Snowbird Mts.  Enjoy the Tuni Gap Road ride from Hayesville to Andrews!  Carpool $5.00.  Short Shuttle.

Lake Winfield Scott over Blood Mountain to Wolfpen Gap via the Jarrard Gap, Freeman Loop, AT and Duncan Ridge Trails.  8.5 miles, 1500’ elevation gain, some rocky footing.  This hike has it all but the view is worth it!  Short shuttle. ($5 or Golden Age Pass + $2.50 at Lake Winfield Scott).  Carpool $3.

Wayah Bald (5,342 ft.) to  Wayah Gap (4,180 ft.) on the AT.  4.2 miles (≈ 3:15hrs), mostly downhill. Spectacular view from observation tower atop Wayah Bald.  Shuttle required.  Carpool $5.00.

NEW HIKE: Fall Color Hike: 10.8 miles from Wayah Bald to Franklin, NC outskirts on the Bartram Trail.  Start high on 5342’ Wayah Bald’s old observation tower with commanding view from the Smokies to Albert Mountain.  Overall the hike is downhill, but some up-and-down in between will give you a workout.  Conclude just past a lovely waterfall at the trailhead on Franklin’s outskirts.  Hike paced at 2+ mph.  Carpool $5.00

Tesnatee Gap on the Richard Russell Highway to Wolf Laurel Top and return.  This is a 4.2 mile round trip hike with magnificent views from the Rock outcrops. (≈ 3:00 hrs).  Carpool $2.00

NEW HIKE: Beech Creek Loop – Moderately strenuous 10? mile hike begins on Tallulah River Road, just north of Tate City in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness.   Great view of Beech Creek, two waterfalls, and Standing Indian Mt. make this a great hike, plus it’s a loop!  Bring $$$ in case you want to shop at Tate City Mall.  Carpool $8.00 Macedonia Baptist Church in Hiawassee     **** PHOTO'S****               Mary Patrick 706-379-4170

Yellow Mountain Trail in the Coosa Wildlife Management Area.  4.7 miles and 800 foot elevation change. The Yellow Mountain Trail to the top, then the Shope Gap Trail to the Duncan Ridge Road, follow the road to the Mill Shoal Creek Trail which will take us back to the Campground. Relax with your feet in the beautiful creek at the end of the hike.  Carpool $5.00

Chunky Gal Trail from Perry Gap over the top of  Shooting Creek Bald  (Boteler Peak) to  Glade Gap on Hwy 64 in NC.  5.5 miles ( ≈ 3.5 hrs ).  Outstanding view from top.  Shuttle required.  Carpool $2.00

Eagle Mountain near Hiawassee.  9 mile loop with some steep climbing. Come climb the mountain that along with Bell Mountain dominates the skyline from Hiawassee and Hayesville. Up close views of Bell Mountain, pass old hunter’s cabin and great views of Lake Chatuge.  Weather permitting, we may even do a short bushwack just for fun!.  Carpool $2.00

Indian Grave Gap to Tray Mountain and back.  5.0 mile moderate hike on the AT to Tray Mt., the second highest point in GA.  The trail passes Indian Grave Gap (3113 ft), a fabulous hillside of Galax, the “cheese factory” turnoff, a viewpoint just before Tray Mt. (4430 ft).  Carpool $2.00

Standing Indian Area.  Rock Gap to Albert Mountain on the AT.  12 mile in and out hike.  Some of the best views in the area at the fire tower.  Lunch on the summit.  Paced hike at 2+ mph.  Carpool $5.

Unicoi Gap to Indian Grave Gap on the AT and return on the Rocky Mountain Trail.  A 5.5 mile hike (≈ 3:40 hrs) with 1,000 ft. elevation gain both directions.

NEW HIKE:  Benton MacKaye, Hemp Top, Jacks River trails.  We will start hiking from Watson Gap, enter the Cohutta Wilderness on the BMT, then use the Hemp Top and Jack’s River trails to complete a circle and return over a 2.6 repeat of the BMT to Watson Gap again.  About 8.3 miles.  Carpool $5.00

NEW HIKE: From Sandy Gap to Unicoi Gap on the Benton MacKaye Trail.  It is an 8.3 mile section, with a beautiful ridgeline walk along the NC/TN state line, with added attractions of seeing an old engraved stone marker on the ridge marking the state line, and “old” Doc Watson’s TB sanatorium, in ruins, with rock walls over 3 stories high still standing, and ending at the historic Unicoi Gap in TN.  Shuttle.  $5 carpool.

Deep Gap to Sassafras Gap on the AT.  9+ miles. Just about our last chance to visit the Deep Gap area until March as the FS usually closes this road from Jan. through March.  We start on the AT and head South to Muskrat Shelter area, then on for a visit to Ravenrock Cliff, stop and explore an aircraft crash site, then back on the AT for scenic views of Lake Chatuge and on to Sassafras Gap.  Return to our cars the same way except near the end we take the “old AT.”  Carpool $5.00.

Neels Gap to Wolf Laurel Top and back on the AT. A 6.8 mile (5 hr) round trip.  Great views from Wolf Laurel.  Hike Leader contact Winton at Mountain Crossings to arrange to park a few cars at Neels Gap.  Short  0.4 mile shuttle to Neels Gap from Byron Reece parking area.

Blue Ridge Gap to Plum Orchard and then on to Bly Gap.  9 miles in and out.  1.3 miles each way to Plum Orchard and 3.2 miles each way to Bly Gap.  Trail passes Blue Ridge Gap 3020’, GA/NC line 3600’, Bly Gap 3840’.  Get your picture taken by the gnarled tree!  Carpool $3.00
