Hike Ratings:   Distance:     A = up to 3 miles                 Terrain/Footing:  1 = easy
                                          B = 3-6 miles                                                  2 = average

                                          C = 6-8 miles                                                  3 = moderate
                                          D = 8-10 miles                                                4 = strenuous

                                          E = over 10 miles                                           5 = very strenuous

Arkaquah Trail from Brasstown Bald parking lot to Trackrock Gap.  This is a moderate hike of about 5.5 miles, mostly downhill, but with a few “ups.” Spectacular views.  See the petroglyphs at the end. Some rough footing.  Shuttle

Yonah Mountain near Cleveland, GA. 5 miles. A 5 mile round trip with 1,700 feet elevation gain. Trail is a combination of moderate and some steep and rocky sections. Stunning views!

Bartram Trail from Courthouse Gap to Beegum Gap. 12 mile with 2,100 ft elevation gain, end up on top of Rabun Bald, GA’s 2nd highest peak. Paced at 2+ mph. Shuttle.

Fires Creek.  From recreation area, pass by Leatherwood Falls, then take Rim Access Trail for another 2 miles of steady ascent. Return down access trail and complete Leatherwood Falls loop for 5 miles.  Steep uphill section.

Dicks Creek Gap to Plum Orchard (in and out).  9 miles.  Moderate with some steep climbs.  4.3 miles on the AT plus .2 miles to shelter for 4.5 miles each way.  MHH club “favorite”.

Benton MacKaye Trail from Bushy Head Gap to McKenney Gap 10 miles round trip. Moderate with steep climbs. Nice ridgeline walk with great vistas off the sides. Very pretty sections of rhododendron.

Panther Creek Falls Trail.   A 7 mile round trip hike along beautiful Panther Creek to a spectacular waterfall off Hwy 441 south of Clayton. Some very difficult footing due to erosion. Rare spring wildflowers. Optional meal out after

Standing Indian area  - From the Backcountry Information sign, up the Long Branch Trail (2 miles) to the A.T., right on the A.T. and 3.4 miles to summit of Albert Mt. and return for a total 10.8 miles.

Coleman River Trail.  One of the prettiest trails in North Georgia featuring cascades, old growth forest and huge boulders.  This 2 mile round trip hike is rated moderate.  Moccasin Creek SP Trails.  Scenic 2-3 mile hikes along a creek with several waterfalls and interpretive trail.  Pass required for SP. Optional meal out at La Prades on Lake Burton

Trails of the Ocoee River:  7+ mi. hike, starting at Thunder Rock Campground. Climb the moderate BMT trail over to the Ocoee WW Center and down the Rhododendron Trail to the parking lot. The rhododendron should be in full bloom!

Chunky Gal Trail.  Hike from Bob Allison Campground along scenic Tuni Creek to the big buckeye tree and return.  About 4 miles (≈ 3:00 hrs) with 5 stream crossings (slippery footing) each way.  Hiking sticks required.

Mooney Gap to Timber Ridge Trail in the Standing Indian Area. 8.7 miles total. At Mooney Gap go southbound on the AT for 5 miles, then 2.5 miles on the Timber Ridge Trail and finish up with 1.2 miles to Big Laurel Falls. Shuttle required.

Rock Creek Trail, Benton MacKaye Trail, Etc. This ten-mile-plus trek includes a single creek wade (relatively shallow), a federal wilderness trek for a way, the BMT, and two trails in the Ocoee Gorge including Old Copper Rd. Trail to return to our cars. Bring your sack lunch and water.

Panthers Creek Falls in the Cohutta’s. Total 9.2 miles round trip. The hike starts at the Three Forks area, proceed 2.3 miles on East Cowpen Tr., then turn onto Panther Cr. Tr., 2.3 miles to falls.
