Bartram Trail from Russell Bridge on Hwy 28 east of Clayton to Licklog Falls. Return on fisherman trail along SC side of Chatooga River.  7.5 miles. A beautiful, more or less flat trail to walk.  Good opportunity to dine out after the hike at Rumor Haz It in Clayton.

Eagle Mountain, near Hiawassee. 9 mile loop with some steep climbing.  Come climb the mountain that along with Bell Mountain dominates the skyline from Hiawassee and Hayesville. Up close views of Bell Mountain, pass old hunter’s cabin and great views of Lake Chatuge.

Fires Creek Rim Trail.  Hike up Phillips Ridge Trail to the Rim Trail, then right to Rockhouse Creek Trail and follow it down to our cars.  Views from the Rim trail in early spring are fantastic.  Approx 10 miles.

Tallulah River to Tallulah River; a NEW hike for MHH. 

10 mile hike that begins and ends with a wet crossing of the Tallulah River.  Hike follows an abandoned logging road to Bly Gap, apx distance 4 miles.  .  Joining the AT south,we follow it to Blue Ridge Gap (3 miles), then return via a jeep road to another crossing of the Tallulah, 3 miles south of where we began.  First half of hike has several steep climbs and bushwacks.  Short shuttle required.  Water shoes to cross the River?  Eddie Minche will lead this hike.

Sandy Gap to Unicoi Gap on the Benton MacKaye Trail

It is an 8.3 mile section , with a beautiful ridgeline walk along the NC/TN state line. Added attractions of seeing an old engraved marker on the ridge marking the state line and “old Doc” –Roger’s TB sanatorium, in ruins, with rock walls over 3 stories high still standing. Ends at the historic Unicoi Gap in TN. Shuttle..

Gahuti Backcountry Trail in Fort Mountain State Park near Ellijay .The Gahuti trail is an 8.2 mile loop with good varying scenery that is moderately strenuous in a few places.  A short hike at the end can be done to a lookout that has great views to the north and west.

Leisure Hike  -  Hog Pen Gap to Wide Gap on the A.T.   The hike will begin at Hog Pen Gap on the Richard Russell Highway, and go north to Wide Gap, about 2.5 miles and return to Hog Pen Gap. Or we might just go as far as Poor Mountain, about 1.9 miles. The terrain is easy to moderate, with a few hills

Emery Creek Falls.  5 miles in and out.  A delightful walk in the Cohuttas which ends in a pair of waterfalls:  The first is 40-50 ft high, the second is about 25 ft high.  The walk is along Emery Creek and involves about 12 stream crossings, so bring poles – should be nice and cool down by the creek.

Woody Gap to Neels Gap.  Shuttle/key exchange.  10.6 milesModerately strenuous with climb up Blood Mt. (highest point on the GA AT) but with good switchbacks. Elevations from 3150 to 4461 to 3125.  Trail passes Woody Gap (3150), Dockery Lake trail, Jarrard Gap(3250), Bird Gap (3650),  Freeman Trail,  Slaughter Creek Trail, Blood Mountain (4461) high point, Flatrock Gap (3452), Neels Gap (3125).
