Eagle Mountain, near Hiawassee. 9 mile in and out with some steep climbing.  Come climb the mountain that along with Bell Mountain dominates the skyline from Hiawassee and Hayesville. Up close views of Bell Mountain, pass old hunter’s cabin and great views of Lake Chatuge.

Old Copper Road Trail at the Ocoee Whitewater Center. 5 miles out and back along the Ocoee River. Adventurous hikers can add the Rhododendron Trail  for an additional 2.5 miles.

BMT: Springer parking lot, up AT to Springer, then BMT to 3 Forks. 7 mi. mod hike. Southern terminus of the AT and the BMT with memorial marker for Benton MayKaye.  Beautiful rock outcropping overlook.  3 Forks is the confluence of Stover, Chester and Long Creeks. Shorter version for those not wanting to go the whole distance.

Lake Winfield Scott-Jarrard Gap- Slaughter Gap loop. This is a pleasant 6 mile hike with moderate ascents and descents. Great wildflowers ($5.00 or Golden Age Pass at Lake Winfield Scott).

Big Lost Creek Trail Located in TN. on the BMT. Less than six miles in and out. This easy,mostly level hike follows Big Lost Creek. Beautiful gorge, high rock walls on each side. Cascading rapids, falls, and beautiful rock formations on one side. Giant icicles in winter make this a gorgeous winter hike.

Trails of the Ocoee River:  7+ mi. hike, starting at Thunder Rock Campground. Climb the moderate BMT trail over to the Ocoee WW Center and down the Rhododendron Trail to the parking lot. The rhododendron should be in full bloom!

Hike Inn, A.T. Connecting, and Appalachian Approach Trails. This is a 10.2-mile loop hike starting out atop Amicalola Falls, taking the pleasant Hike Inn Trail to the Hike Inn, then continuing a mile on the connector trail to the Appalachian Approach Trail, the latter upon which we will return full circle back to our vehicles parked near the top of the falls.

Hanging Dog Recreation Area near Murphy, NC.  A moderate hike of 6+ miles with views of Lake Hiwassee. A few short, steep hills but mostly elevation changes of 200 to 300 feet.

Deep Gap (4,341 ft) to the top of Standing Indian Mountain (5,498 ft.) on the AT.  This is a 5 mile round trip hike (3.5 hours) in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness Area.  Year-round spectacular views.

Pickens Nose 10.4 miles in and out in the Standing Indian Area.  Start at Bearpen Trail up to the AT, then right to Mooney Gap.  Then turn left on FSR 83 to Pickens Nose Trail for outstanding long range views.
