Fires Creek Rim Trail.  Hike up Phillips Ridge Trail to the Rim Trail, then right to Rockhouse Creek Trail and follow it down to our cars.  Views from the Rim trail in early spring are fantastic. Trail maintained by MHH.  Approx. 10 miles. Loop hike; no shuttle.

 Clemmer Falls in TN, a 3.4 mile in and out hike along the Clemmer Scenic Spur Trail #78. Two water crossings, short steep incline to 20 ft. waterfall - these areas can be very slick so good hiking shoes and poles are recommended. Primarily flat with small hills except for the short falls climb.

Chunky Gal Trail from Perry Gap to Glade Gap.  We will start at Perry Gap and hike south about two hours to the summit of Boteler Peak which has perhaps the best views of any summit in the Nantahala’s.  Then we continue walking south about another two hours to Glade Gap at Highway 64.  Trail maintained by MHH. 6.5 miles. Short shuttle.

Bike Ride

Chattanooga Bike Ride: special event is for those with their own bikes. Bike along the scenic Riverwalk bike trail from the Chickmauga Dam to lunch at the Big River Grill and Brewery, then bike across the TN river on the pedestrian bridge, stop at the bread bakery then back to cars. Approx. 20 miles of paved and mostly flat bike trail.

Deep Gap (4,341 ft) to the top of Standing Indian Mountain (5,498 ft.) on the AT.  This is a 5 mile round trip hike (3.5 hours) in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness Area.  Year-round spectacular views.

PART NEW Leisure Hike - Smithgall Woods State Park - With the park's nature guide leading us, we'll do the 1.6 mi. Laurel Ridge Trail, 1.0 mi. r.t. Chunanee Falls trail, and the 0.9 Martin's Mine Trail. We'll also tour the nature center, and lunch along one of Georgia's best trout streams.

Wildflower hikes: Coleman River Trail.  One of the prettiest trails in North Georgia featuring cascades, old growth forest and huge boulders.  This 2 mile round trip hike is rated moderate.  Moccasin Creek SP Trails.  Scenic 2-3 mile hikes along a creek with several waterfalls and interpretive trail.  Pass required for SP.

Winding Stair Gap to Siler Bald and return. Approx 9 miles.  This is a MHH favorite at any season of the year.  Lunch on the summit makes the walk up worth it!

Leisure Hike - Piney Knob Shorter Loop & First Part of Murphy River Walk with Lunch - We'll do that shorter loop at Piney Knob near Murphy's casino first, then travel to the old L&N Depot trailhead in Murphy to do the first part of the Murphy River Walk, get off at street to downtown restaurants, eat lunch, then return to the river walk to walk the slightly longer walk out by the Valley and Hiawassee rivers on the Confluence Loop and lower river trail by pond cypresses back to the L&N trailhead. Distance - about five miles.

Hike in Eagles Nest Park at the summit of Mt. Oglethorpe, the original terminus for the Appalachian Trail in Georgia. Spectacular views to Amicalola Lodge to the North, and to Stone Mountain, the Atlanta Skyline, and Kennesaw Mountain to the South. 2 mile moderate hike with 500 feet ascent in ~2 miles. Afterwards, as an option, travel 20 minutes to Burnt Mountain Preserve and hike the Champions Creek trail for 2 miles with 800 foot ascent.

Leisure Hike - Unicoi Gap to TN 68 on the BMT & Buck Bald - This 4.7 mi. section of the TN Benton MacKaye Trail is rather easy except for a brief 0.2 mi. climb at the start - most the rest is slightly undulating and then all downhill the last part. Added is a visit to the NEARBY 360-degree vista of the Cherokee National Forest at hike's end up a Forest Service road to Buck Bald summit. Also learn a bit about the Cherokee late 1830s "Trail of Tears" in this area from the leader on this jaunt. Fairly long shuttle.

 Hike Wildcat Tract loop trails.  No shuttle, no water crossing, one waterfall.  We'll start at Wildcat Campground off Steve Tate Hwy beginning with Wildcat Creek Trail, then Rocky Ford Trail, Windy Ridge Trail, and Turner Trail back to Wildcat Campground.  A few brief steep climbs.  MHH members Mike Pilvinsky, Ken Cissna, and Steve Dennison recently checked these trails out.

Hike Inn, A.T. Connecting, and Appalachian Approach Trails. This is a 10.2-mile loop hike starting out atop Amicalola Falls, taking the pleasant Hike Inn Trail to the Hike Inn, then continuing a mile on the connector trail to the Appalachian Approach Trail, the latter upon which we will return full circle back to our vehicles parked near the top of the falls.

PART NEW: Leisure Hike - Three Trails of Aska Recreation Area - This one involves just a modest bid of car shuttling. We drive the Stanley Creek Rd. to Stanley Gap to start the new portion for leisure hikes. Here we hike the Stanley Gap Trail out and modestly uphill to the Benton MacKaye Trail. Turn right and do a "down-hiller" to lovely Fall Branch Falls and out to other vehicles. Eventually drive all cars a few minutes to the trailhead parking for the 2.7 mi. connector and loop for the Long Branch Loop Trail. Total day's trek distance: 4.6 mi.

Meet: Food Lion parking in Blue Ridge at 9:00 a.m. or Fall Branch Falls parking at 9:20 a.m.

Black Rock Mountain State Park near Clayton.  Hike the James E. Edmonds Loop Trail for 7.2 moderate to strenuous miles. Then the Tennessee Rock Trail for 2.2 moderate miles.  9.4 miles total.  State park pass or current parking fee.   Moderate pace.

SUMMER COOLER: Leisure Hike - Two Loops of Jackrabbit Trails - Whew! As of June 21, it is now officially summer. Time for a quite easy hike at Jackrabbit Trails in NC. We'll do the Central Loop Trail of 3.1 mi., and the Upper Ridge Trail of 1.5 mi., total an easy 4.6 miles in good woods cover and just above Lake Chatuge's cool waters.
