Indian
Grave Gap to Tray
Mountain and back. 5.0 mile moderate hike on the AT to Tray Mt.,
the second highest point in GA. The
trail passes Indian Grave Gap (3113 ft), a fabulous hillside of Galax, the
“cheese factory” turnoff, a viewpoint just before Tray Mt.
(4430 ft). Carpool $3

New hike: Sandy Gap to Unicoi Gap on the Benton
MacKaye Trail. It is an 8.3 mile section, with a
beautiful ridgeline walk along the NC/TN state line, with added attractions
of seeing an old engraved stone marker on the ridge marking the state line,
and “old” Doc Watson’s TB sanatorium, in ruins, with rock walls over 3
stories high still standing, and ending at the historic Unicoi Gap in
TN. Shuttle. $5 carpool.

Mountain Trail in the Coosa Wildlife
Management Area. 4.7 miles and 800 foot elevation change.
The Yellow Mountain Trail to the top, then the Shope Gap Trail to the Duncan
Ridge Road, follow the road to the Mill Shoal Creek Trail which will
take us back to the Campground. Relax with your feet in the beautiful creek

7 strenuous miles round trip.
2,200
foot elevation gain. After
numerous creek crossings of Tuni Creek and through giant hickories and old
growth hemlocks, arrive at 5240 ft. summit of Tusquitee Bald for (newly
cleared) spectacular views. 5
Stream Crossing each way, BRING hiking Poles and change of socks!!

Benton MacKaye Trail,
Section 15 near
Coker Creek, TN. Moderate 4.2 miles in and out, from Sandy Gap NC
to Sixmile gap, with the optional side trip up Waucheesi Mountain.
The side trip will add @ 1.5 miles but includes GREAT 360º views.
The main trail walks the ridge along the TN/NC line, with beautiful
views in the winter, and a stone state line marker engraved in the 1821 state
