  Hike Ratings:  Distance:     A = 10 or more miles          Terrain/Footing:  1 = easy

                                           B = 8-10 miles                                                2 = average

                                           C = 6-8 miles                                                  3 = moderate

                                           D = 3-6 miles                                                  4 = strenuous

                                           E = up to 3 miles

Old Copper Road Trail along Ocoee River in TN.  This is a 4.8 mile round trip hike that begins at the Ocoee Whitewater Center.

Yonah Mountain near Cleveland, GA.   5 miles.   All hikers are welcome to hike the new trail to Yonah.  A 5 mile round trip with 1,700 feet elevation gain.  Trail is a combination of moderate and some steep and rocky sections.  Hike up the new trail with switchbacks to the Heliport and then on to the rim trail.  Option for lunch at the West Family Restaurant.

GA AT series 7B.  Jack’s Gap to Unicoi Gap 6.6 miles (shuttle/key exchange).  Moderate.  4.4 miles on AT plus 2.2 miles on Jack’s Knob trail.  Trail passes Unicoi Gap (2949), Blue Mt. (4025), Blue Mt. Shelter trail (3800), Chattahoochee Gap (3500).  Some rocky sections of trail.

Chunky Gal Trail from Perry Gap over the top of  Shooting Creek Bald (Boteler Peak) to Glade Gap on Hwy 64 in NC.  5.5 miles ( ≈ 2½ hrs ).  Outstanding view from top.  Shuttle required.

New hike in Appletree.  This is a fairly difficult loop hike of 9.3 miles. Trails will include the interlocking Appletree, Laurel Creek, Bartram (1 mi.), London Bald, and return on the Appletree.  This is, to the best of my (George’s) knowledge, our first loop hike that goes to London Bald, at least in my club tenure.  (This is the hike that was cancelled in the winter due to cold weather.)

Park Creek Trail with crossover to Park Ridge Trail in Standing Indian area.  5 miles with some stream crossings  ( ≈ 3:30 hrs ).  A favorite spring hike because of beautiful wildflower display.

GA AT series 1.   Springer Mountain to Hightower Gap (shuttle/key exchange).  Total miles 9.0:  8.1 miles on AT plus .9 miles from route 42 to Springer Mt.  Moderate hike with elevations varying from 3782 to 2525. Trail passes Springer Mt. (3782) high point, Stover Creek Shelter, Three Forks (2525) low point, Long Creek Falls, Hawk Mountain Shelter, Hightower Gap (2854).

Dockery Lake to AT and return.   (Joint Long and Short hike due to Virginia hiking trip.)   A 6.8 mile hike.  Elevation gain 1,000 ft. going, 600 ft. returning.  Trail noted for wild azaleas and Carolina silverbells.  Optional wildflower walk in Sosebee Cove.

Coleman River Trail.  One of the prettiest trails in North Georgia featuring cascades, old growth forest and huge boulders.  This 1.8 mile round trip hike is rated moderate.  In addition, we will hike the Hemlock Falls Trail (2 miles round trip).  This will total 3.8 miles.

Benton MacKaye Trail from Hwy. 60 across Toonowee Mountain to the suspension bridge and return for 7.2 miles ( ≈3:40 hrs) round trip.  Elevation change 800 ft. in, 900 ft out.

GA AT series 12.  Blue Ridge Gap to Bly Gap and from Blue Ridge Gap to Plum Orchard Gap and back.  9 miles (in and out).   Moderate. 3.2 miles to Bly Gap each way for 6.4 miles plus 1.3 miles each way to Plum Orchard Gap for 2.6 miles.  Trail passes Blue Ridge Gap (3020), GA/NC line (3600), Bly Gap (3840), Plum Orchard Gap (3090).  Interesting oak tree at Bly Gap.

Finale for the GA AT series.  Come celebrate with our members who did the whole thing!

Tesnatee Gap on the Richard Russell Highway to Whitley Gap Shelter and return. This is a 4 mile round trip hike ( 3:20 hrs ) with magnificent views from the ridge top.

Jacks Gap to Chimneytop at Brasstown Bald area.  This 7 mile round trip hike climbs steeply to the Brasstown Bald parking area and then on to the boulders at Chimneytop for lunch.  Hopefully we will see many pink lady slippers this year.  Last year we were too late.

High Shoals Falls.  A 2.5 mile round trip hike to view two beautiful waterfalls.  This hike is rated moderate due to some climbing and descending. ( 2:45 hrs )

Jack Rabbit Bike/Hike Trail.   7.6 miles.  Hike four loops of the Jack Rabbit Bike/Hike Trail--3.1 miles on the white blazed loop, 2 miles on the blue blazed loop, 1 mile on the orange blazed trail, 1.5 miles on yellow blazed loop.  Great views of Lake Chatuge and variety of hard woods.

Fires Creek Rim Trail - FSR 6176 Loop.  From Leatherwood Falls, follow Rim Trail for 2.2 miles. Turn right and follow FSR 6176 for 4.4 miles. Turn left after crossing Leatherwood Creek onto unmarked trail.  7 mile loop
